Let me be specific: I am a law student (business law) with an undergraduate double major in Sociology-Organizational Studies and Psychology (with a double minor in History and English). Since I would like to keep the option open to becoming a business man at later age, I was thinking of applying for a dual degree (JD/MBA). I hear, however, that once you have a background in business law, the MBA becomes unnecessary, for you already have the critical thinking skills and can pick up the skills on the job. The marketability of having 2 degrees is unimportant for me if I can save myself the time and money of going to school for an extra year.

It depends on the portfolio of your job.

1. If you are taking up a job in corporate which is only associated with law, then all you need to know is company laws. Your Law degree must be fine in that case.

2. If you are going for an executive post, or if you feel like switching over to management executive post later, then you would be required to have an MBA.

3. If you are going to start your own business, you need to be even a grduate, leave alone having an MBA!

But yes, having an MBA is an added qualification for 1 & 3 above, and essential for 2.

Given your splendid varying academic background, I would suggest you to do MBA. You could have an edge over managers who know only management, and lawyers who know only law.

I want to know if any school offers journalism online instead of actually going to the school for class. i live in NJ so i dont want to go to any school around here. Also, I don't want to use Phoenix University or those online programs, i would like a real, accredited university.thanks for the help

Liberty University has an absolutely brilliant distance program. It is strictly online and Liberty is a great school. My brother got a Sports Management degree strictly online and graduated last year. He is in an internship with New York Red Bulls trust me, Liberty is a great accredited University. Try it out. I am not 100% sure they have journalism though.

You have a very valid point. I don't know how private industry pay is structured, but if you work for the Fedeal Government, a college degree (even in business administration) will start you out at about a GS-6, ($28,085 base, not including locality pay). A Ph.D will bag you about ($46, 189) as a starting GS-11. Big flippin' whoop!

Those schools are pretty good schools and a lot of top companies recruit many students from those schools. I think all those schools are pretty good and you should be able to get a good job right out of college. Its hard to tell which school will land you the best opportunities because companies dont just look at the school that you go to. They look at the individual too.

I was 51 when I decided to go to medical school, so you've got plenty of time. You will have to complete the prerequisite courses and take the MCAT.

You can complete all of the prereqs in two semesters–assuming you return to school full time. Here's a link to a site that provides a good primer on the MD process: http://people.howstuffworks.com/becoming-a-doctor.htm

I was thinking on majoring in Business Administration or Finance or maybe even English. Right now Im on track to major in Political Science BTW. So what in the world should I do? Im confused!!!! I mean if I get a political science degree and dont get accepted into law school then what will be my back up plan? Should I change my degree? If so, what degree should it be? By the way I'm an aspiring Corporate Lawyer. Just so you know. Now please I need Answers NOW.

There is no "prelaw" major, not even political science can adequately prepare you for the rigors of law school. A law degree is so much more than a glorified political science major. I will say that an engineering, mathematics or science degree is necessary if you want to become a patent lawyer. This field requires a separate bar exam on top of the state bar exam to get admitted. To take that exam, you will need a degree in the sciences, and political science doesn't count.

For all other fields of law, it really doesn't matter.

Sounds like a complex question but this is what it boils down to. I am in high school and I'm trying to figure out what i want to major in during college. I think that I am ultimately going to go into business/finance but my parents tell me that an undergraduate degree in business will not distinguish me from other students and would rather that I major in engineering. I am definitely going to graduate school so i was wondering if i got an undergraduate degree in engineering, would it improve my chances of getting into an elite business school (assuming i got all A's) or would that be better if i got my degree in business. I am good in both subjects, am currently first in my high school class and would eventually like to get an MBA from a highly thought of school like Wharton or Harvard (just examples). If anyone has some advice for me i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

i think you are putting the carriage in front of the horses. You first have to find a major/field that you are passionate about, then decide if grad school is for you.
As for grad school in general, they have alot of pre-requisites classes from the undergrad degree to get enrolled. Plus the graduate exam to get in is going to be based on the the undergrad material for that field.
For example, to get into medical school, you have to take a certain amount of science classes in math, biology, and chemistry. The MCAT, which is the graduate entrance exam, is based on these courses. So someone with a different background, engineering, business or whatnot is going to be lost.
A compromise might be to go dual majored.

I am 24, I have an undergraduate degree in Business from Towson University in Baltimore, MD. However, I want to go to Grad School but I don't want to get an MBA.
I want to go for Journalism. Do schools accept people who have a different major or am I just crazy to think this could happen. Thanks for the help

Yes, I did just that.
But I had to take a LOT of undergraduate courses in the new fields before I could start taking graduate level courses. This was to meet all of the prerequisites required for the grad level courses. By the time I finished, I think that I was only shy one course from what I would have had to take if I was getting the undergrad degree.
What you might want to do is check out the course catalog, and figure out all of the courses that you would need to take in order to graduate. Then figure out all of the prerequisites to those courses (which may be several levels deep).
You can also schedule an appointment with someone at the school so that you can discuss your concerns. Do it before plunking down the application fee.
