I am currently going to University of La Verne twice a week to receive my BA in education. However, I just started and the cost of babysitting is killing us (my husband works nights). I am looking into online colleges and checking there accreditation.
I am currently considering Liberty University. However, they aren’t WASC accredited but are SACS accredited. I would really like to go to a college where I can also get a sense of religious enlightenment. Any opinions or help would be greatly appreciated.
If you have gone to an online school I would greatly apperciate your help.

Other Note: All the colleges I am looking into do require student teaching. So don’t think just because you study online you get no experience.

Take a look at Columbia College, and Drury University as well. Accreditations are by region, not nationwide, the reason why there is a difference in accreditations is because of the location of the school, not because of any quality difference.

why do you have to have teaching degree to teach elementary science in highschool, but to teach harder science in college you dont need any teaching degree? also is there a place online to look at todays science textbooks or maybe even download one.

You don't need a teaching degree to teach science because we'd much rather you have a science degree. You're going to have to be more specific – what subject are you looking for?

Where can I get a degree teaching english as a second/foreign language?

I have a bachelor degree in English. I am interested in getting certified to teach English as a second language. I don't seem to be able to find any info on this. I keep finding info for people who want to learn English not teach it. An online program would be ideal or somewhere in Michigan.

Where are you in Michigan?

EMU has a good program, but the program wasn't a good fit for me.

I completed my MA-TESOL at Madonna University (in Livonia). Very good program!! I would highly recommend it. They offer the MA program (with K-12 endorsement), or just the ESL endorsement (if that's what you're looking for). www.madonna.edu

If you plan on teaching in Michigan (K-12), you do need at least the ESL endorsement. You can't get this online.
If you plan on teaching in Michigan (higher ed), you'll need an MA. I just don't want you to waste your time/money with some crappy online course.

You don't need certification to teach college courses, either on campus or online.

I am almost finished with my Bachelors degree in History. I would like to continue on and get my masters in History. I am interested in American Public University's (APU) History program. But can I get a legitimate masters degree from a fully online institution, that when Im finished I would be able to get a job teaching at a community college? APU is fully accredited but Im leary because the only information about them I can find is on their website. It seems like nobody has heard of them. Any help would be appreciated!

OK, there are lots of posts of how a degree of UOP does not have the same clout as degrees elsewhere.

What about teaching at UOP?

Has anyone taught at UOP online, and if so what observations can you share?

Do you design the syllabus yourself? Is the administration supportive? How do you administer an online exam? What is the quality of the students?

I know someone who applied to teach. She worked at an administrator at a higher public school and was turned down because she did not meet some requirements. To teach at UoP you have to have a Masters degree and teach in a certain area to teach that subject. (I.E. Math teachers teach math at the university).

The syllabus is given to you prior. You can not make changes. You are given all the material and information on what is expected of you. The administration is supportive and you can rely on them for help, when needed. Everything is in the handbook so there really are no doubts.

The quality of students are mainly older, who are trying to go back to college to obtain a degree while working full time, or who have other commitments that interfere with them going to a normal week day university. The classes are about the same as a University and some classes require more, some require less. This is anywhere you go, whether it be online or in a class environment. You have teachers who are easy and others who are hard. It’s really what fits your schedule. Same with students at any University….some intelligent and there to learn…some unwilling to participate. I have attended both UoP and our state university and they are really the same. Some look down on an online college but really it is the same environment and learning tools. I found that UoP sometimes required a little more (homework & participation wise…) where as my state University only gave 3 tests and those were your grades.

UoP does ask for a resume and are kind of technical on who they hire. They have to be up to date on all curriculum and standards. It is a 3 step hiring process. Hope this helps you!

How good is an online degree. I would like get one?

I have only taken one class in college. I am too busy to attend a regular school. I work full time and mabye an online degree would be worth looking into. I would like to be a teacher when I retire from my job. Can an online degree qualify me to be a teacher in Kansas? Is there a certain online school that has test outs for the easier courses so I could graduate faster. Any info would be helpful especially if you have an online degree and are teaching.

I currently teach computer science. I received my degree from NRI schools. just check very carefully if they are accredited. also check with your local community college.
be very cautious. not all correspondence schools are accredited and even if they are, you have to check if your state of residence accepts them.
NRI is now closed. but McGraw-Hill has an excellent reputation and is accepted in all most all 50 states.
