What is the best choice for Online College courses/ degrees?

Already have my associates but would like bachelors in communications, not sure of the best/ online site to use for an acreditted degree.

i just registered for Kaplan University. If you have any question syou should goive them a call they are excellent at answering whatever you need them to.

I was trying to see which would be better before i actually decided what i wanted to do, since i have a son, i decided not to stay on campus but is still planning to attend college. i was also wondering if anyone knew of some great career choices just something i should think about before actually going.

Is it possible that my eLearning online college courses will not work with Linux?

Next semester, I will have three online classes. I’m not sure at all what kind of components this has, it just says “online programs and activities, no software required”.

Is it possible that any kind of online component will have problems running in an OS other than Windows?
It’s not much of a problem, my hard drive is partitioned (5% Windows XP, in case of problem). But I’m wondering.

My guess it will work, but it all depends on what technology the web site uses. They may say software required, but it still may need a browser plug-in to work. If the online class uses normal web code, Flash, or Java you will be fine. If it uses Silver Light, ActiveX, or another Microsoft technology then you will have issues, but still you may still have options. There is Internet Explorer for Linux (IEs4Linux) that can run alot stuff meant for only Windows.

I have to take a U.S. History or Government class online and I'm not sure what to expect. Do you still have to buy a book? What kind of assignments are there? Is it easier than taking a regular class? Harder? Cheaper? I would like to hear from people with experience, not just guesses!

I just took a US history class online last semester. It was a lot of work. I had to check in online and complete 5 to 8 "discussions", which were really in depth critical thinking questions on a message board, I had to complete this, listen to an hour long lecture weekly and submit the weekly discussions. We had to read a ton, and the tests were very hard, essay style. We read an autobiography and wrote 5 page research papers on them.

I spent about 5-10 hours a week on the one class, just listening to lectures and engaging in discussions. A lot of people failed. Online classes are hard work. I got an A, but it was NOT an easy A. I am taking Online Courses at a State University, and I also take in class courses at that same school.

I like it because I work better independently, but the classes require more work in my opinion. I learned a lot and I save gas money.

It came out about the same price, I had to buy the books, and pay tuition, plus an online tuition charge.

My son wants to do online college courses from a college in Pittsburgh. Does anyone know if these are legit?

I am not sure how to check out the online college to see if it is some kind of scam.

Any institution you are considering should be regionally accredited. Regional accreditation is the same for online or onground courses.

Do not go to the university website, their claims of accreditation can be false or misrepresented. Verify in through the 3rd party. It should be accredited by one of the 6 regionals.

I am interested in going back to school online for a degree in something computer related, and all the information is giving me a headache! Why does each school have a different title for similiar programs? I would like to know what job titles I could obtain with the different degrees offered. ( Don't want to spend a bunch of money to be limited to one job.) Any advice, resources, or links would be helpful. Thanks.

John Bear, a leading distance education expert, co-authors a couple of books, _Bears' Guide to the Best Computer Degrees by Distance Learning_ and _Get Your IT Degree and Succeed_, which both have good descriptions of the differences between various computer-related degree titles as well as having in-depth descriptions of various online opportunities for computer degrees. Could I take college courses (online) for 14-year-olds?

would calculus three be hard to do online?

You look at the class schedule to see what classes are scheduled for on-line. Work is listed in a syllabus and you are responsible for all deadlines. It will tell you what modules are due when along with tests schedule. Tests are timed and when the time runs out your booted from the test.

I am not sure if calculus three would be on-line. I assume it is a difficult math class, but if you are really good with math I assume it is possible to take it.

You must be a very organized student to get the work done. I do know someone who was really good with math who finished the modules and all her test in a math class within three weeks.

I took two on line classes one completely without a teacher. She would post information for us each week and grade assignments with a personal post. Another class had on-line work and then we had to be online and post ideas for one hour each week. Both were very time consuming.

im thinking of taking a college course online but im afraid it might come back and bite me in the as# later on in life as a bad thing. should i stick to in-class courses only will it be better for me in the long run?

I’ve not taken a single college course in the past 12 months that didn’t have some significant online component. More than a few could have been done completely online. Several were done completely online.

Online courses are here, they’re going to be here, they’re going to grow in importance. Even Harvard and Oxford are teaching online now.

Just don’t go into it thinking online = easy. That will bite you in the as#. Online courses are generally more difficult than the same class in the classroom.

And remember, those “managers” that went to college back in the 80’s who think that the only way to get properly educated is at a frat party on campus will be retired pretty soon. They’re the least of your worries – learning things is what you need to worry about because your competition isn’t going through college like the “Animal House” generation did – your competition is actually learning the material.

Are the certificates you receive from Penn Foster college online courses lagit and usable?

I am considering the online Pharmacy Tech class, but I don't want to waste my time or money if it's not going to get me anywhere in the future. I want to be sure the certificate is acceptable and lagit.

I have taken classes through them and have not had any problems with the certificate. They are an accredited school. You can always check some job perspectives and ask if they would accept it.
