What are the top engineering schools in the United States?

This is mostly an opinion question, but I am curious to what school's most people think of when they think of engineering. If possible rank them according to their Chemical Engineering programs.
Thank you for informing me of Google… I am well aware of my opinion on the top schools, however, I would like to see comments from other people.

There are the great schools which always show up in the top rank – Stanford, MIT, Berkeley etc – but there are also "boutique" Engineering/Science schools with small enrollments but very high standards. Among these are California Institute of Technology, Rose-Hulman, Cooper Union, Harvey Mudd, and several others. A new school – Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering – is attracting a lot of attention.

I live in Canada and am interested in going into environmental engineering. I'm just wondering if it would be advantageous for me to earn my degree at an American school (I have been told that they are generally better than Canadian schools) and if so, which colleges/universities offer environmental engineering specifically?

I have two recommendations. Georgia Tech and Colorado School of Mines. Colorado School of Mines has a specific degree program called Environmental Science and Engineering.

However please realize there are real Engineering schools. They are not liberal arts colleges where you can get an engineering degree. They don't teach history, art, philosophy or other subjects like most colleges and universities. These are schools that teach subjects like math, chemistry, physics, geology and geologic engineering, mining engineering, etc. The only non-hard science department at Colorado School of Mines is the Humanities department. This department teaches you to write technical papers and reports and meets the state requirements so you obtain an accredited degree.

The ratio of female to male is much lower than other colleges or universities. (It was 10 guys to 1 girl when I attended Mines in the 70's.) These schools will work your a** off. You will not have the fun at these schools that you will have at other colleges.
But if this is where your interest lies and you are willing to put in the work and effort, these schools are where you belong.

I was wondering, what are the best reputated and the best engineering schools in the country. Just wanted to have your opinions. Im currently majoring in Civil Engineering, Im still a sophtmore at a community college and I have a hard time picking a good engineering school.

3.7 GPA, 2100 SAT, Decent extra curriculum
What engineering schools can i get into with those grades?
I dont even expect to get into MIT
can you tell me some realistic engineering schools that i would get in?
I recently found out about Rochester IT. But i have no clue about that school can you tell me something about it if you know?

As for RIT, they have THE MOST boring campus I've ever seen. But, a good program.

I am a junior in high school and am currently on the college hunt. I would like to go to a college with a strong reputation in engineering that also offers a great student life. Most likely I am not going to leave the midwest, but I am open to any college suggestions around the country.

If you like Colorado I would suggest UCCS (University of Colorado, Colorado Springs). I didn't go to this school but they have a good program.

The only thing I would recommend is for you to visit their websites and compare their classes, tuition, etc. Maybe even email a few professors and ask them which school they would recommend if you are flexible.

Also, how good is the New York Institute of Technology?

Cornell, NYU, Columbia are great schools for engineering. I think New York Institute of Technology is an ok school but you are probably better off at one of those 3 schools i mentioned.

I am a current high school junior with a 34 ACT and 2250 SAT. I am looking for selective engineering schools in the city. My current list includes:

Carnegie Mellon (Pittsburgh)
Cooper Union (NYC)
Johns Hopkins (Baltimore)
UC Berkeley (Berkeley/San Francisco)
UCLA/USC (Los Angeles)

Great job on your standardized tests, by the way. Carnegie Mellon is the best engineering school on the list, maybe I'm biased because I'm a student at CMU but I can tell you that the engineering students here are very intelligent and have no problem getting a job. Best of luck!

For Engineering, Which of these schools is best?

I got accepted into University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At this point, my intended major is chemical engineering, but i'm not quite sure whether i will stick through it since I am also open to other engineering majors such as nuclear, material, electrical, and mechanical.

University of Michigan has the most prestigious reputation among the three overall, but it's overall engineering ranking is one behind U of I… but for mechanical engineering, it's ranked second, and five for many engineering majors (but not chemical engineering)

University of Wisconsin Madison is ranked 3rd in chemical engineering and 2nd in nuclear engineering. but its overall engineering ranking is lower than that of u of I and michigans…

UIUC ranks 6th overall (ranks 1 in material and civil, and overall top 5 in many engineering programs). it has the best reputation amongst engineering schools I've been accepted to…

I'm really confused as to which one I should go and benefit most from…

They are all top notch engineering schools, you should choose the university who's environment will suit your personalty the best. Go to the campus while they are in session and check out the student body and faculty and see if you will like it there and will fit in. You will do a whole lot better and learn a whole lot more if you are happy and comfortable in the environment you are in.

As for me, I wish I went to a different school with a more diverse faculty and student body and with smaller classes instead of going to UF where they don't have any women profs, hispanic profs or African American profs in the CE department and there is a lot of animosity from the asian and rich white students towards the hispanic, black and poorer students.

I’m looking at doing a study abroad in Australia or New Zealand next year. I am a mechanical engineering major and do not want to be pushed back for graduation. Therefore, I want to go to a school that has a decent engineering program. Right now, I have a list of universities that have engineering programs but I want to know which ones are known for engineering just to make sure I’ll be able to transfer credits for engineering courses. So, basically, what are some schools in Australia and New Zealand that are known for their engineering programs?
